Alan Coad Named as Senior Vice President, Global Carrier Business
SAN FRANCISCO - Feb 17, 2009 – iSkoot, a mobile software pioneer known for groundbreaking Internet calling solutions, today announced that Alan Coad joins the company’s executive team as iSkoot’s Senior Vice President of Global Carrier Solutions to lead iSkoot’s worldwide communication service provider activities. Coad brings to iSkoot more than 18 years experience shaping differentiated offerings for the world’s telecoms operators and growing telecoms oriented software/IT services businesses.
“iSkoot’s new Kalaida platform will unlock transformational value for mobile carriers around the world and we’re truly happy to have Alan join the team to drive this opportunity.” said Mark Jacobstein, iSkoot CEO. “His deep understanding of the mobile ecosystem and extensive operational experience will help to forge the key partnerships for our chosen markets and to build out a world class organization as the business scales.”
In the 1990s, Alan helped create and shape the European market for wireless text messaging with Irish start-up Aldiscon and subsequent acquirer, Logica Plc. Part of this journey took him to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he founded the group’s South American operation and built it organically over four years to achieve annual revenues approaching $30m. He returned to Europe to head worldwide Sales & Operations for Logica’s Global Telecoms products division (now ACISION) before taking responsibility for the group’s worldwide Communications sector P&L.
Most recently, Alan returned to his entrepreneurial roots as EVP at SpinVox, the award -winning voice -to -screen messaging processor; he was appointed to the advisory board of Plaxo Inc and was a founding member of the European Software Association. Alan holds a Bachelor of Technology from the University of Limerick and a Higher Diploma in Education, Maths and Science from Trinity College in Dublin.
“iSkoot has taken a fresh approach to mobilizing the Internet and I look forward to taking this unique technology to operators,” said Alan Coad, iSkoot Senior Vice President of Global Carrier Business. “iSkoot’s Kalaida platform is the first to bring together all the Web services mobile customers care about and serve them up to a regular device in real time, over a single toggle-able client. Coupled with a light data plan, this is a compelling opportunity to make even the simplest handsets smarter and make mobile data a must have for the mass market.”
Following the company’s success with the downloadable iSkoot for Skype™ mobile client, the software developed for the 3 Skypephone, recent acquisition of Social.IM and announcement of a $19 million Series C funding investment, iSkoot is well positioned to see growth that extends its influence to new categories and regions.
