iSkoot Provides Software for 3 Skypephone
CAMBRIDGE, MA – October 30, 2007 – iSkoot today announced that it has been selected by Skype to help power the 3 Skypephone — the first ever mass-market Skype-enabled mobile handset. This unique device is the first mass-market cellular mobile handset to offer integrated Skype. iSkoot has been working with Skype to develop software for the handset, which gives customers push-of-a-button access to their online Skype accounts. Users will be able to enjoy Skype calls and Skype chat directly from the handset.
“We are thrilled to be working on the 3 Skypephone with Skype, who is on the leading edge of internet communications,” said iSkoot CEO Jacob Guedalia.
“iSkoot has done great job in delivering software that has enabled us to develop the 3 Skypephone,” said Eric Lagier, Business Development Director for Mobile at Skype. “They’re one of the key partners who’ve contributed to this project, enabling us to extend the reach of Skype to mobile users.”
San Francisco-based iSkoot brings leading internet services like Skype to mobile handsets around the world, delivering rich consumer experiences with minimal impact on operator networks.
iSkoot launched the first and only carrier-grade, carrier-deployed Skype-for-Mobile application in 2006, and now powers the Mobile World Congress award-winning 3 Skypephone currently sold in eight countries on three continents.
iSkoot takes advantage of the voice-optimized circuit-switched network for delivery of voice communications, in keeping with its mission to engineer elegant and operator-friendly solutions to the challenge of bringing resource-intensive internet services to mobile handsets.
