iSkoot’s very own CEO Mark Jacobstein hit the ground running at the 2008 eComm conference earlier this month, giving a talk on the virtues and viability of iSkoot’s uniquely carrier-friendly approach to mobile VoIP. By designing a thin-client application and network infrastructure that route Skype calls over the mobile phone’s voice channel instead of data (iSkoot’s “secret sauce”
), iSkoot can run on nearly any phone with minimal impact on battery power and memory–unlike data-dependent mobile VoIP clients, which can’t make the same claim.
Mark illuminated the competitive advantages of iSkoot’s technology by pointing to our successful collaborations with mobile operator 3 to bring Skype-enabled mobile handsets to market in 8 countries.

As Jim Courtney observed in a recent Skype Journal post, “iSkoot has demonstrated how to overcome these barriers with their support for the 3 Skypephone service as well by providing clients for other smartphones, such as Blackberry and Nokia, that take advantage of their architecture to operate IM over the data network but voice over the inherent voice channel.”
Jim also pointed out in a previous post that “Mark’s presentation generated lots of post-presentation informal discussion, especially with respect to the potential for iSkoot’s operation on…mobile platforms such as BlackBerry, Nokia and Windows Mobile devices.”
Of course, we’ve got iSkoot for Skype solutions for BlackBerry, S60 and Windows Mobile devices available on our website TODAY, free to download! Check ‘em out, people!
And thanks for the shoutout, Jim!

Our very own Izhar Armony (an esteemed member of the iSkoot Board of Directors) was prepped and ready to race in this year’s 30th annual Dakar, an amazing two-week, 9,273 kilometer off-road race winding from Lisbon, across the Sahara, down to Dakar, Senegal. No small feat, but he wasn’t going at it alone. Check it out: Powered by iSkoot!

An immensely shocking and disappointing blow, this year’s Dakar was canceled–just 24 hours prior to the start of the race!–due to Al-Qaeda terrorist activity in Mauritania and threats to attack the event.
But the spirit of unity, exploration and adventure is not easily defeated: You can’t keep a good man or an incredible event down long! Race organizers are kicking off their “Dakar Series” project a year ahead of schedule to host an historic 3000+ kilometer race through Hungary and Romania this April. According to the Dakar’s official sponsors, the Central Europe Rally will enable 2008 Dakar competitors “to enter a new rally with some extremely advantageous conditions and offer their sponsors exposure in a major international event.”
You can bet Izhar will be among the pack. Good Luck, Izhar!
Or, as they say in Hungary: Sok szerencset! (Compliments of our Hungarian Office Manager, Sylvia.)

Some people do champagne and confetti (and yeah, we kinda like that stuff too), but the gang here at iSkoot decided the best way to ring in the New Year would be with some fresh upgrades to our iSkoot for Skype software! So a word to the wise for all you BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, UIQ and S60 users - be sure to check out our latest and greatest iSkoot software, iSkoot for Skype v1.1.
We’ve added in some handy little touches to make your mobile Skype calling and chat experience easier than ever. We like ‘em, and we’re pretty sure you will too!
Exhibit A) SkypeOut calling to anyone in your phone’s Address Book.
Sure, you can call your saved SkypeOut contacts with just a click, and you can always dial new phone numbers manually. But now, iSkoot actually lets you peruse the general address book on your phone to snag a phone number to call. It’s easy, one-stop shopping for all your calling needs.
If the number’s in your phone book, iSkoot can dial it.

Exhibit B) Skype calling from a Chat conversation
Tired of typing, and ready to make the call? When you’re chatting with a Skype contact, you don’t have to refer back to your main contact list to dial them up. Now with just a couple of clicks, you can initiate a Skype call right from the chat room screen.

These are just a couple of highlights from our newest iSkoot for Skype: v1.1 feature set. We hope you’ll enjoy! We look forward to keeping ‘em coming.
