It seems folks around the iSkoot office aren’t the only ones buzzing over our recent nab of social network IM client, Social.IM.
After TechCrunch broke the news two weeks ago, Venture Beat jumped on the coverage, observing that the aquisition “positions iSkoot to move beyond the mobile VoIP market so that it can package a variety of mobile communications services that can be integrated with mobile phones.”
Our VoIP-Watching friend Andy Abramson caught wind the big play soon after, and had this to say about it:
“A company I’m rather fond of is iSkoot. They make the client that works on the SkypePhone that I use when I’m in the UK. Well today VentureBeat is reporting how iSkoot is getting more social, and in my view moving away from simply being a Skype connectivity client making company and into a lot more.”
A lot more indeed. As Chris Crum notes in his WebProNews post:
“iSkoot has its own thing going. Research shows that mobile social networking is going to grow big time over the coming years, and iSkoot recognizes that.”
We can’t argue with that. In the meantime, we appreciate your recognition of, well, our recognition, and we promise more big news to come.

Eyeing Skype’s somewhat conspicuous lack of public commentary since new CEO Josh Silverman came aboard, our friend Andy Abramson over at VoIP Watch has taken matters into his own hands, cooking up a handful of projections for we can expect (and what Andy eagerly awaits!) to see on the Skype horizon.
With suspicions of a new beefed-up developer program and hopes that Skype revives last year’s “unlimited bundle” in place of Skype Pro, Andy also anticipates a lot more action in the mobile Skype department, spearheaded by iSkoot’s MVP executive roster!
In his words: “I’d expect to see more of the Skype Mobile play develop. iSkoot is on a roll with a new management team so sooner or later that has to benefit Skype.”
Armed with a new partnership aimed at unleashing iSkoot’s Skype-branded mobile products on a whole slew of new territories, we’re happy to tell Andy - that’s the plan.

iSkoot turned up on the “VoIP Watch” radar screen recently, garnering kudos for the 3 Skypephone (and our other BETA mobile clients!) from VoIP aficionado Andy Abramson.
Making note of our new All Star additions to the executive team, Andy contends that iSkoot isn’t just “changing the guard,” but also “changing the game.”
On iSkoot’s mobile products:
“I’ve been a convert ever since Truphone’s Dean Elwood gifted me with Hutchison 3G 3SkypePhone in London that has made my visits to the center of commerce so much more enjoyable, if not more expensive as I now take more of the famed London Black cabs so I can be in touch with my staff at no cost using Skype on the SkypePhone versus the Tube.”
Inspired to give our free beta software offerings a whirl, Andy says:
“For a beta release, the service works as advertised…If you like Skype and want it with you on the go, you may want to check out iSkoot’s beta….[It] is a smart way to leverage a wide audience and begin to bring new services to market using OPPs–other people’s pipes.”
We like the sound of that. Put iSkoot in your pipe and VoIP it!
Thanks for the kind word, Andy.
