CAMBRIDGE, MA - August 28, 2006 - iSkoot, the service provider
for mobile Internet communications solutions, today announced
that its iSkootMobile solution for mobile-PC calling now supports
mass market Java-based phones. The new release enables users
of mobile phones based on the Java software platform to place
and receive Internet calls through Skype software from their
handsets, without the need for PCs, special hardware, or WiFi
hot spots.
By supporting the Java platform for mobile phones, the new
release of iSkootMobile makes it possible for a wide range
of users to be able to use Skype from the most popular phones
available. Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) is the most
ubiquitous application platform for mobile devices across the
globe. It provides a robust, flexible environment for applications
running on a broad range of embedded devices, such as mobile
phones. According to recent reports, more than 700 million
mobile phones are now equipped with the Java application execution
environments, making Java the most widely used software platform
for mobile phone applications. The new iSkootMobile release
complements its initial support for the Symbian mobile platform,
which includes the Nokia series 60 handsets. (See below for
a complete list of devices supported.)
"iSkoot is dedicated to rolling out the widest possible support
for mobile devices, services and platforms. The small footprint
of our client software gives us the necessary flexibility to
accomplish this. iSkootMobile enables users to take advantage
of PC calling using nothing but their everyday mobile phones.
With iSkoot's latest release, Java-based mobile phone users
can use Skype anywhere they go with the most popular phones
system," said Roy Erez, VP of Business Development at iSkoot.
"This is phase one in iSkoot's expansion plans. We are committed
to provide a broad range of mobile phone users with the broadest
access to PC calls. We will continue to extend iSkoot support
to many more mobile devices and advanced features."
The iSkootMobile phone application for Skype Software is now
available for free at www.iskoot.com and go.iskoot.com. iSkootMobile
is a small piece of free client software for mobile phones
that allows users to talk with online buddies over the Internet
anywhere. With iSkootMobile, users can take advantage of Internet
telephony services without being tethered to their PC. iSkootMobile
loads users' Skype contact lists onto their cell phone display
screens, and with just a click of a button, they can call their
contacts from anywhere. Users only pay for the air time on
their mobile phones. They can also make international calls
without paying long distance fees (Internet telephony charges
will apply).
