1. What is iSkoot Notifier?

iSkoot Notifier is the mobile command center for your social life. It’s a little wonder that gives your everyday mobile handset a lot of the functionality that makes smart phones great, including a live connection to your internet services. So when someone writes a comment on your Facebook Wall, or @replies to you on Twitter, or OK Magazine posts something juicy, you’ll be able to see it when it happens and respond in real time.

2. Which web services does iSkoot Notifier currently support?

Notifier currently supports:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • MySpace
  • News feeds from News/Politics/Technology/Entertainment sites and more

System Requirements

3. What kind of mobile phone do I need to use the Notifier mobile app?

iSkoot Notifier currently supports the following T-Mobile UK handsets:
  • Sony Ericsson W595
  • Sony Ericsson W705
  • Sony Ericsson W995

4. Do I need WiFi access to use iSkoot Notifier?

Nope. Notifier runs solely over your mobile data connection.

5. Do I need to have an account for every service?

No – you can activate and use only the services that you choose.

6. Can I create a new account for a web service (e.g. a new Facebook account) from iSkoot Notifier?

Not yet – the current version of Notifier needs you to create these accounts from your PC. Once you’ve set them up, then you’re free to use them on iSkoot Notifier.

How to

7. How do I get iSkoot Notifier on my phone?

iSkoot Notifier is available as a free trial on T-Mobile UK, for a limited time only. If you have one of the supported handsets, iSkoot Notifier is already virtually preloaded on your phone. Just open your phone’s T-Mobile Menu and select the icon labeled iSkoot Notifier to initiate installation and fire up the app.

8. How does the iSkoot Notifier log in work?
It’s simple: the first time you launch iSkoot Notifier, you’ll sign in to each of your services once. That’s it. After that, iSkoot Notifier will automatically sign you into your services every time you launch the app.

You can change this setting if you want, though. Just open iSkoot Notifier’s “More” menu and select “Notifier Settings.” Uncheck the box labeled “Sign Me in Automatically” to set the application to manual login. You can choose whether or not you want iSkoot Notifier to save your user names by checking (or unchecking) “Remember Me.”

9. How do I navigate around iSkoot Notifier?

Use your phone’s Five Way Navigator to scroll up to the Carousel – it will light up to indicate that you have activated it, and you’ll also see black arrows appear on the far left and right sides of the screen. Scroll left and right through the icons. As you scroll, you will move through Notifier’s different pages to view your services.

To select a web service, just scroll to the corresponding icon in the Carousel and the service page will appear.

One you’re signed into your services, you’ll notice a set of tabs appear on Notifier’s service pages underneath the Carousel. The tabs are Notifier’s handy way organizing all the content within your services. Scroll down to the tabs, and then navigate left and right to access the various tabs within each service. To return to the Carousel, just scroll back up to the top of the page until the Carousel lights up and the black arrows appear.

10. Are there any shortcuts that make navigating around Notifier easier?

YES! Press the * key from virtually any screen in Notifier, and you’ll zip right back up to the carousel.

Also, the “0″ key works like a “page down” button.

11. Can I leave Notifier running in the background while I use other features on my phone?

This capability varies by phone, but iSkoot Notifier will certainly run in the background if your device allows for it.

Troubleshooting

12. The program tells me my user name/password is incorrect when I try to log into my services, but I KNOW they’re right. What’s going on?

VERY important – ALL passwords are case-sensitive. Many Sony Ericsson phones will automatically capitalize the first letter in your password. Keep an eye out for that – and adjust the case as needed by hitting the star key.

13. Sometimes when I’m using iSkoot Notifier I suddenly end up in my phone’s internet browser. What’s going on, and how can I get back?

Don’t worry, it’s supposed to work this way (and whenever iSkoot Notifier opens the browser, it asks your permission first). For News feeds, Notifier shows you the news feed headlines and the first few lines of the story. To read the whole article, Notifier will launch the webpage where the article lives.

It works similarly for MySpace. You can see status updates, comments and news feeds, but to view things like your blogs, bulletins and photo albums, iSkoot Notifier will launch the service in the phone’s web browser — and you may need to do a one-time sign in on the MySpace mobile website (another thing that you should only have to do once).

Once you’re done viewing the content, just close the browser (press your phone’s red End key, or open the Options menu and select “Exit Browser”). You should return directly to the iSkoot Notifier application.

14. The app just froze. Now what?

Hold down the “Back” or “End” key until you see an option to “End Application.” Exit out of the app and then restart. If that doesn’t work, then power your phone off and back on.

Security

15. What does iSkoot Notifier do to protect my log in credentials?

Your password is entered and stored on your phone. When your password is sent to our server, we use SSL encryption for transport and we never store the password on the server.

16. What happens if I lose my device?
Just to be safe, you should reset all the passwords for the services you were using in iSkoot Notifier.
