5. Will you be supporting other phones soon?
iSkoot for Skype supports nearly all major smartphone operating systems, and whenever new devices are released on these OSes, we do our best to support them. We’re also always evaluating new OSes and platforms as they come down the pipeline. Please check in on our website, the iSkoot Facebook Page, or follow us on Twitter for news and updates!
6. Do I need anything else to use iSkoot for Skype?
You need a mobile calling plan, and a subscription to a data service is recommended. iSkoot doesn’t charge for calls to Skype contacts (all you pay for is air time minutes), but if you want to use iSkoot to make SkypeOut calls, or to receive inbound Skype calls on your phone, you will also need to purchase SkypeOut minutes.
7. Why do I need a data service to use iSkoot for Skype?
iSkoot uses your mobile Internet connection to keep your contact list updated, and to send and receive chat messages. You will be charged by your mobile network provider for the data traffic. Please contact your service provider to determine the best data plan for your individual needs.
8. How much data does iSkoot for Skype use in a month?
The amount of data used varies by person. It depends on how often you use iSkoot and how long you stay connected. The good news is that iSkoot’s data use is fairly small for the moderate user! Even so, please contact your service provider to determine the best data plan for your individual needs.
9. Do I need to be in a Wi-Fi “hot spot” to use iSkoot for Skype?
No, all you need is a data service subscription.
What Does it Cost
10. How much does iSkoot for Skype cost?
iSkoot for Skype is a free app! iSkoot doesn’t charge you anything to download and use the service.
11. Are there any OTHER costs incurred through using iSkoot for Skype?
You will be charged by your mobile network provider for air time and for data traffic based on the type of data service plan you have purchased. If your mobile calling plan does not include long distance calls, your mobile network provider may charge you for long distance calls within your country. You will also incur SkypeOut charges any time you use iSkoot to call a regular telephone number (as opposed to calling a Skype contact), and for any incoming Skype calls you receive. For more detailed information concerning costs, please review the “What does it Cost to Use iSkoot” section on our iSkoot for Skype page. Please note: Skype’s promotional offers for SkypeOut calls to select countries may not apply when using iSkoot.
12. Do iSkoot for Skype calls count towards my mobile minutes usage?
Yes. Standard air time rates for all calls you make using iSkoot for Skype will apply.
How To
13. How do I download iSkoot for Skype?
First, you have to register to download the application. Once you’ve filled out the registration form, you can download the app to your PC immediately and transfer it to your handset using its infrared or Bluetooth® port or your USB cable. Alternatively, iSkoot can send you a link to our software via email or SMS text message, and you can download it over the air to your handset.
14. How do I set up iSkoot for Skype so I can make Skype calls?
Once you download iSkoot for Skype, log in using your Skype ID and password and, when prompted, enter your mobile phone number into the application. Once your contact list loads, just click on a contact to initiate a call. For additional step-by-step instructions on how to set up iSkoot on your handset, please refer to our User Manuals.
15. If I am running iSkoot for Skype on my handset, can I receive Skype calls from my contacts?
Yes, but you must have available SkypeOut credit. To receive incoming Skype calls on your handset, go to the Settings menu, select “Set to receive calls” and change the setting to “On”. A new screen will prompt you to enter in your phone number. Enter your mobile phone number and select OK. SkypeOut charges for the connecting call to your handset will apply.
16. Do I have to enter my mobile phone number into the iSkoot application even if I don’t want to receive incoming Skype calls?
YES! You must enter your handset number — including your country code — into the iSkoot application. iSkoot uses your country code to identify which regional access point to connect to, so it is critical that you enter it in correctly: (International Country Code)-(Area Code)-(Phone number).
Failing to enter your country code may cause iSkoot to route your calls through the wrong access point, meaning you could potentially be charged for international calls to our global servers. Please avoid this problem by entering and verifying your country code. You can still set up your software so that you won’t receive incoming calls by opening your Options menu, selecting Settings, clicking on the receive calls option and setting it to “Off.”
17. Can I use iSkoot for Skype if I have Skype Voicemail?
You can use iSkoot to make calls, but you will not be able to receive calls while you have Skype Voicemail enabled.
18. Do I have to live in the US to use iSkoot for Skype?
Definitely not. iSkoot offers network service worldwide! Click here for a complete list of supported countries.
19. I’m a frequent international traveler. Does using iSkoot for Skype exempt me from roaming charges?
No. All the rules and restrictions of your individual cellular provider — including roaming charges when you’re out of network range– still apply.
20. How do I use iSkoot for Skype to chat with a contact?
Open iSkoot for Skype, highlight a contact in your Skype contact list, open the options menu and select “Chat.” iSkoot for Skype offers a lot of cool chat features, like Skype emoticons and message templates. For complete instructions on how to enjoy iSkoot’s Skype chat functionality, please refer to our User Manuals.
21. Do you support chatting with multiple contacts?
You can absolutely initiate and participate in multiple concurrent chat sessions, and you can easily switch from conversation to conversation. However, iSkoot enables you to initiate one-to-one chat sessions only. You can participate in conversations of 3 or more people, but only if the person you’re chatting with users invite the additional participants from their PC.
22. Do you support other internet services for mobile?
Yes! iSkoot offers several products, including Social Beat on Verizon Wireless and AT&T Social Net on AT&T, that offer all-in-one mobile Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail, Google Talk and live RSS. Troubleshooting
23. Why did it take longer to display my contact list the first time I sign in to iSkoot for Skype than at any other time?
The first time you log in, the iSkoot network has to find your contacts. Then we store the location of your contacts, which allows us to find them more quickly the next time you sign in.
24. Why are some of my contacts listed by their real names and others by their Skype IDs?
iSkoot lists contacts by their full names, if the names are available. If the name is not available, iSkoot will list the contact by his or her Skype ID. As such, you may see both full names and Skype IDs intermixed in your contact list. The contacts are then sorted alphabetically.
